12:05PM - This video is amazing!

Sorry for the redundancy if you've seen this one before (stop me, oh ho-ho, stop me), but I thought it was so great I just had to share for those who hadn't.

Here's Sarah Palin (I know, I know, she's still around!) at the annual turkey pardon, giving an interview--as a guy slaughters turkeys right behind her--and delighting in what a grand ol' time she's having at an event of such "levity." I, like many others, couldn't take my eyes off the turkey guy throughout the interview. It was just a blood-covered face away from a scene out of a David Lynch movie. Crazy, man!

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for The Superficial!

And you?

11:07PM - Make the Jacko With Your Mouth, Biz

This is pretty brilliant. Time well spent? Could be a different story. But he definitely put some work into this, and it shows.

Here's a guy who used 64 different voice tracks to recreate Micheal Jackson's Thriller in its entirety. The guy is the human sampler! I love the way he has all the parts marked including a red leather jacket-clad Vincent Price track and each little face is triggered when the part comes up like a giant video MPC. Genius, I say! Genius!

11:59AM - son... not gonna make it!

Once again, I'm killed by the deadline. Too many time-consuming projects at once, bad clock management and short-ass windows. No more open days to work on this story, just pockets of time. Not good for the concentration. Especially when you have a deficit in attention span like this old queen. Case in point, what am I doing writing about having no time to write at a time I should be writing? I got the deadline boy blues. I'll be lucky to have any sleep before the weekend.

3:29PM - Do you know Johnny To?

Finally got around to watching Exiled, which I'd heard about from Nick's blog, along with some other titles I'm sure are to be gems. OK? Loved it! The perfect mix of vintage John Woo, Reservoir Dogs and The Outsiders.

If anything it makes me want to check out some more Johnny To flicks. Problem is, his list of credits is extensive, and from the looks of things, Exiled is the only one I've seen. I need more. Anybody got any recs as to where to go next for some more good To action? I'd greatly appreciate the feedback.

Cheers.

11:50AM - No can Sing

Just got word that we are officially not coming to Singapore for Baybeats this year. I am bummed but we have a perfect Plan B. While I've heard from a certain friend that the food is terrivle, we will be doing a few dates in the Philippines. I haven't been since I was a little fire-starting rugrat (age 5, perhaps?) so it will be cool to get back to my roots, quite possibly see some fam I barely know. Also if we can swing the flights, we'll hop over to Vietnam for a date or two as well. I am upset I can't see the Barrioses (that includes Grace because she is unofficially a Barrios--or maybe Kevin B is a Grace... ) and all the friends I made in Sing, but the promoter has promised to consider us for some other shows/fests early next year, so No-Pan gonna work it out.

Let's see, crazy PI shows... Vietnam... weeemin... time to call Unka Dav!!!

11:32PM - Teaching Your Grandmother How to Play Halo 3

A funny, poignant blog (even though I'm finding it some months after it was written) about the changing tides in the music industry. It's turned a few of the cogs in my rattling rock star brain, and further got me thinking about things to do with the boxes and boxes of CDs towering about in our living room (short of floating them down the Yodogawa River, of course). I believe starting next show, if all members agree, our first CD will be on the pay what you will system, even though we are not Radiohead and hardly can pull the kind of bread from such a system as they. The way I look at it in this case is that we've already dumped so much wasted cash into this project with a label and fucktwats that thought they were major label rich, thereby sticking us with a ridiculous tab of excesses we didn't need or ask for (including a few that we did, to be fair). We had lawsuits held over our head. Threats. Ridiculous contracts and ultimatums. In the end our record received none of the promised distribution or promotion (aside from the small avenues I had access to), and Shingo and I are sending this imaginary (ie defunct) label hard-earned money every month just to keep that old, whithering monkey in Utsunomiya off our backs. At least this way, people are actually putting that CD into their paws, something that hardly anybody does anymore.

After that, the band restricts itself to small runs of limited-edition low-priced collector items. Every album post Imagi Rocks becomes a fans-only affair with special artwork, packaging, presents and free downloads should anyone so desire.

Making a buck in a band has always been tough if you're not Journey or Reel Big Fish, especially if you're in a band that god forbid is doing something against the norm, but these days it's something else. If I wasn't cursed with the gift of creativity, I'd settle down nicely somewhere in Irvine with my The OC™ wife and her fake tits, drive around the kids and our wiener dog in a minivan covered in the family business ads, adjusting my blue tooth as I weave through traffic on the 22... and eventually die of a heart attack from overeating all of the wrong kinds of food and the stress of keeping up with the rat race. But unfortunately that kind of regular life sounds like a deathly poison to my spirit and therefore I must do something creative to have inner peace. I strive just to stay alive and vital. Ital vital. Ital galore. I got it by the shore.

Anyway, it's something to try, something to hone as we go and hopefully a way to clear us some space for a weight bench once we drop a couple hundred pounds in plastic music media. Let's see how it goes.
